Established in 2017, Kigali Center for Photography is the first and only one of its kind in the capital of Rwanda, Kigali City. The Center was founded by Rwandan freelance photographer Jacques Nkinzingabo, with a vision to create a Learning and Creating space dedicated to the development of photography, visual culture, and artistic practices in Rwanda. With a photography gallery space to showcase a wide-range of exhibitions for photographers, the center aims to explore and promote visual storytelling and photography by supporting emerging artists explore beyond the medium.
The last 6 years of the Kigali Center for Photography have entirely offered free workshops, exhibitions, training, lectures, and portfolio reviews to local photographers, on top of offering residencies to visiting international photographers and scholars to facilitate training, research, and case studies.
The Kigali Center for Photography hosts a number of photographers from different backgrounds, educators and visual storytellers to engage with local photographers and our community. It is a home to the Kigali Photo Fest (An international photography festival initiated by the Kigali Center for Photography and its partners).

These include arranging workshops, exhibitions, grants for photographers to create new photography projects and also fund ongoing projects, along with the provision of residencies to visiting international photographers and scholars to facilitate trainings and participate into Center’s Programs.

WORKSHOPSEducation is a major part of the Center.
We are inviting a number of well-known international photographers and visual storytellers to engage with the local photographers. We aim to engage, share and exchange knowledge and experience with the local photographers and our community. |
EVENTSDuring special events hosted by both local and international visual artists, interested audiences get a special night to experience the art and engage with artists in person. The goal is to introduce and share new projects created by the artists during their stay in Rwanda and working with our community of photographers as they learn how to develop their projects from various Rwandan and foreign professionals in the field.
