Kigali Visual Encounters 2025 responds to a strong and growing demand for a regional platform where knowledge, visual culture, and art can be exchanged across the region. Rwanda, with its vibrant local art scene and its growing creative economy , it offers unique value in shaping these conversations.

This year’s edition, under the theme Form: Dialogues, is dedicated to fostering meaningful exchanges within the East African creative community , using photography and visual storytelling as powerful tools to form dialogue and build connections.
Over the past decade, Rwanda has become an increasingly visible and influential presence in the international art community. Visual documentation has emerged not only as a universal language but also as a serious profession for many young Rwandan photographers. At the heart of this growth lies a commitment to international communication, mutual exchange, and collective learning.

Since its beginnings in 2017, the Kigali Center for Photography has played a key role in nurturing talent, promoting local and international photography, and opening pathways for emerging artists. Its collaborations with international partners and initiatives such as the Kigali International Photo Festival (first held in 2019) have established Rwanda as a hub for visual culture in the region.
Kigali Visual Encounters 2025 builds on this momentum. Bringing together emerging and established creatives from East Africa and beyond, showcasing their work and providing skills-building workshops, panels, and networking opportunities.

Workshops, panels, and networking create essential connections, leading to collaborations, exhibitions, funding, residencies, and commissions that help creatives sustain their practice and grow artistic careers.
